Program Description

Overview
The Seven Secrets of Good Coparenting Seminar provides an in-depth exploration of the “vicious circle of high conflict” – and the why’s and how’s and how-to’s of breaking that cycle:. We examine:

  • the relationship that went from close – to distant – to toxic, and makes coparenting impossible;
  • the “bottom line,” and “sacred ground,” in all relationships – and how they impact coparenting;
  • the boundaries of good coparenting: protecting self and others from the “steamroller” – picking up and propping up the “doormat” – and dealing with the “deaf, dumb or numb response”; and most importantly,
  • defining solutions, removing obstacles and creating permanent coparenting peace.

Structure
The Seminar seeks to create healthy coparenting practices, is presented within a “training” format, and contains two components:

  • The Instructional Component is contained within the first three classes, offered at weekly intervals. All seminar participants attend – including coparents – attend the same class, and the curriculum is structured and “workbook-driven.” Safety and comfort within the classroom is emphasized, and case-specific coparenting discussions are not permitted. Instructional Component information is essential to the Seminar, and Instructional classes not attended must be made up prior to involvement in the Applied Component.
  • The Applied Component comprises the remainder of the Seminar, and is offered within “Small Group Classes” conducted every two weeks. Participants unable to attend a Small Group Class are not required to attend a “makeup” session. Te Applied component builds on Instructional component principles to create healthy coparenting behavior. The Seminar serves as an intervention system by emphasizing both instruction in healthy coparenting – and removing underlying personal obstacles that undermine healthy coparenting practices.

Attendance
Seminar Participants are strongly encouraged to comply with Court Orders and/or attorney instructions regarding attendance. The following, however, is also communicated to Participants:

  • Chronic, severe coparenting problems, such as those commonly experienced by Participants within this Seminar, do not lend themselves to simple solutions or short-term intervention. Effective change with respect to well-established unhealthy coparenting behavior occurs only rarely, therefore, within the span of eight or ten sessions.
  • Consistent with those experience-based conclusions, Seminar services remain permanently available to all Participants who have completed the Instructional Component and are current regarding fees. Further, control and responsibility for involvement in the Seminar – i.e. attending / not attending, and Seminar completion / non-completion – remains at the discretion of each individual Participant.
  • Restated – with complete deference to the Court, each Seminar Participants is charged with determining his/her own attendance, effort, and progress within the Seminar. All decisions, therefore, regarding whether or not the Seminar has been “completed” remain the sole province of the individual Seminar Participant.

Information Provided to Attorneys and the Court
A “Status Report” regarding Seminar Attendance, Effort and Progress is available to attorneys or the Court at any time during or following Seminar involvement. Ratings within each category include “Excellent,” “Good/Excellent,” “Good,” “Fair” and “Poor.”

Attendance reflects presence or absence at bimonthly Small Group Classes. Effort requires productive involvement within sessions, and Progress is gauged through a “Good Coparenting Quiz” that measures both knowledge and application of Seven Secrets principles.

Fees
The Seminar Enrollment Fee is $625, and covers the first eight sessions. The fee for remaining bi-weekly small group classes is $65 per session.
